The JWA Carmel Mountains Emergency Fund Update

Dear Friends,

The fire is finally out thanks to a large international effort  and a courageous force of fire fighters, policemen and many volunteers.
It is time for the country and the Carmel region to review the extent of the damage and prepare a plan for the future.

We have been monitoring the situation closely with the help of Ambassador Amikam Levy, his team, JNF, sources at the Israeli Home Office and around the region.

Out of the disaster have come some heartbreaking stories including the following:

Yemin Ord, a boarding school for orphans, was burnt to the ground. Around 500 children between the ages of 11 and 20 have lost all they had, including their home. For the time being they have been relocated to other boarding schools. After an emotional e-mail appeal with a request for clothing, bedding and other items, we received news today that they have as many things as they needed, but that money is still needed in order to assist the children.

Numerous people have lost their homes and are staying with family, friends and at hotels in the area. We are looking for a way to reach them and find out what their needs are.

The Municipality of Haifa has launched an appeal to recover and rebuild its fire fighting department.

KKL-JNF are busy cleaning the area and evaluating the ecological impact of the fire and they have also started planning and discussing the issue of re-planting.

We wish to thank Rabbi and Goldie Avtzon for their support and for providing us with a space to raise funds during Chabad's Hanukkah celebration on Sunday.

We are very proud that Carmel School and Elsa High have joined forces with us in this effort. We are calling on all community organizations to help forward our appeal to all their members.

Our bazaar is around the corner and we are receiving last minute deliveries of goods. This year more than ever, we will work harder  to ensure a higher rate of income and donations for JWA beneficiaries, including but not limited to the fire victims and a commitment to children with cancer.

We still need volunteers, so if you not signed up yet for a shift, please contact Limor ASAP at info@jwa.org.hk or at 66881902

If you wish to make a donation to the Emergency Fund you can send a check to the
JWA of Hong Kong
