ABOUT US
The JWA is a voluntarily organization dedicated to support educational, social welfare and health programs. We support charities that enhance the lives of children, youth, battered women and families in Israel and in Hong Kong.
- Thousands of handicapped youth, battered women, bedridden children, and cancer victims have already benefited from our support.
Our History
The Jewish Women’s Association of Hong Kong (JWA), a registered charity, has a long history as an integral part of the community. The organization was founded in 1947 and draws membership from a diverse group of women that covers the spectrum in terms of nationality, age and religious affiliation.
In its early days, the JWA centered its activities on providing aid to the World War II refugees, many of whom sought shelter in Asia itself. When the State of Israel was established, the organization expanded its reach and became a supporter of the new state mainly through focus on the Youth Aliyah movements and other beneficiaries in Israel.
We are listed as an affiliate of the International Council of Jewish Women (ICJC), a group that aims to promote understanding between Jewish women worldwide and show solidarity for Israel.
JWA Today
Today the JWA has an office conveniently located in the Hong Kong Jewish Community Center itself where we continue to work towards the goals of the initial founders of the organization.
In order to raise money, the JWA holds two main events - The Annual Bazaar and Israel’s Independence Day Ball.
The Annual Bazaar 2008: hosted 3,000 shoppers from Hong Kong and 200 volunteers from the Jewish Community who operated it!
The Israeli Independence Day Ball 2009: Was a smashing success. We were able to support all of the charities that we have commited to helping. We are looking forward to ‘The 62nd Anniversary Ball’ and hope to see you there! Stay tuned for more information.
